Drawings of Cute Animals

At the time of writing, it's October 27.  My entire enteric nervous system feels like a clenched fist.  Not knowing what else to do, I am going to share some of my recent drawings of animals:

For I will consider my (sister's) cat...

So... how about something light and fluffy?  Literally?

My sister's lovely Bobtail cat Stitch visited for a while.  Before I knew it, I'd filled half an Illo Sketchbook with drawings of the little guy.

2019 National Dog Show Sketches!

It's that time of year again!  My current Sketchbook is a Design Ideation LS Paint, and it's pretty nice so far.  Anyway, on to the doggies.  It's tradition after all.

2018 National Dog Show Sketches!

I've done this three times now, so it's officially a tradition.  My current Sketchbook is on the small side (more on that later) so you're getting two big table-wrecking montages:

The Traditional National Dog Show Sketch-tacular!

Because although the scruffy little terrier thing might have won, they are all good doggos.

The 25 Weird Days of Christmas Day 23: "Mumfie's White Christmas"

Oh goodness, you can't understand how happy I am to have found this.  It's available on, last time I checked, every streaming service their is.  Have a little clip:

"The Magic Adventures of Mumfie" was one of my very few "Are you *sure* I didn't dream that?" shows.  I discovered it in college during that strange era when FOX Kids snapped up the rights to a... unique... variety of international animated series, ranging from this, to "Vision of Escaflowne" and "Cyber-Six".  It's very much as I remember, very sweet and soothing, kind of similar to "David the Gnome" with the weirdness of "Dr. Snuggles".  That's a combination I can get behind.

The 25 Weird Days of Christmas Day...7?: "I Want a Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown!"

OK, so it's really The 19 Weird Days of Christmas since I'm skipping weekends but who's counting?

In today's case, make that "The 19 Adorable Days of Christmas".  Because although "I Want a Dog for Christmas" is never going to stand with the truly timeless and beloved Peanuts specials like "It's the Great Pumpkin" or "A Charlie Brown Christmas" or "Flashbeagle", it is, more than any of the other forgotten Peanuts specials I've ever seen, just cuteness overload.

Drawg Dognovembark!

Oh if only the dog show happened not on Thanksgiving day but a couple months earlier. We could totally make Synapsidtember a thing.

Seriously though. Enjoy these dog show dogs. (Suggested accompaniment.)

Draw Dinovember Day 2 - Other Draw Vertebrate Clade Months?

I thought of a few late last night.  Somehow, these two came to mind as characters who'd be really into this kind of thing, so here are their Morrison equivalents:

Guys, I think we can make Janphibianuary happen.

Inktober Day 31 - "The Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile"

Oh goodness, this is the cutest thing ever:

So today's fanart is just a Jones-y pumpkin wearing the same expression I had during this entire show:

Inktober Day 27 - Sludgey!

Today's Inktober is brought to you by catching up on the Sexy Armpit's Halloween Specials and the Purple Stuff Podcast.  Of course I had to draw this little fellow after he started singing Cathy Dennis...

Inktober Day 22 - First Junco!

10.22.15 - Brush Pen Junco

I set up my bird feeding station a few days ago and all it took was a rainy, soggy morning for the birds to find it.  It hasn't snowed yet, but we've had some snowbirds.

Inktober Day 13 - A Day Late?!

Yes, a day late, and here's why:

10.14.15 - Inktober Cold

I have a very inconveniently timed cold! Those are cute cold viruses partying inside my faceholes!  So far I haven't felt utterly miserable, just really tired and -er- leaky.  Anyway, today's Inktober drawing should be up in a minute or two...

Inktober Day 2 - Pokemon from Memory

I confess this one's a bit of a cheat.   On September 30, my neighborhood suffered an eight-hour long phone/cable/internet outage.  If you've been following me on Twitter (I cannot imagine you'd be reading this and not be), you know that I was nearing the end of a Pokemon Alpha Sapphire Wonderlocke (essentially, take a game I've loved for decades and make it more stressful then necessary; finally beat it yesterday).  So in honor of this unfortunate turn of events, I decided to kick off Inktober a day early and draw my current team from memory.  Here they are from in-hindsight weakest/least accurate to my favorite/also inaccurate; deal with it. Accompanied with crappy screenshots and unofficial nicknames where available.

It's Inktober!

It's Inktober! It's the most wonderful time of the year! Go to event creator Jake Parker's website for the (very loose) rules and instructions. Basically, draw something using ink every day and post it on the Internet. For the record, here's what I'm using:

A hardback Sketchbook, a nice variety of ink pens in dubious packaging, and brush pens from Lakeshore Learning - a great find. The latter I used for this premier Inktoberfest sketch, a cute little Sepia in Sepia:

"We’re Snivelly, Snickety, Boppity, Snarl, Scoff… and Gloat!" - "The Great Santa Claus Switch"

By all accounts "The Great Santa Claus Switch" is one of if not the earliest Christmas special made by Jim Henson and the Muppet crew, and it does clearly look like an early effort. However, of all the Muppet specials I've watched during this week, this is the one must-see.

The Muppet designs are already all kinds of adorable. You can see the seeds of better-known, later Muppet productions and characters. (Thog and Gonzo look and act a little odd but they're already endearing.) And oh, how I love the central image of Muppet monsters gradually overtaking Santa's workshop. This special is the best and I'm so happy to have found it.

Happy Holidays everyone!

November is Draw Dinovember!

11.1.14 - Albertonykus' Skull

I may have missed Inktober, but I'll be darned if I miss Dinovember; a plan that I just made up to draw a dinosaur every day in November (unrelated to this Dinovember).

Here's Skull from Albertonykus' "Raptormaniacs" as a sugar skull for Day of the Dead, rendered in ink, marker, and glitter pens.

Addendum: At the suggestion of the always-awesome Brynn Metheney, this will now be known as Draw Dinovember to relieve confusion with the original Dinovember. :)
